The Fourth Sunday of Lent
🔗 Sunday notes

  1. Laetare Sunday is the fourth Sunday of Lent in the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church. Its name comes from the first words of the entrance antiphon (introit) at Mass on this day: Laetare, Jerusalem, which means Rejoice, O Jerusalem. Joy in the middle of Lent – This is a moment of respite and hope during the penitential period of Lent. It reminds the faithful of the approaching joy of Easter. Pink color – On this day, the use of pink vestments is permitted in the liturgy instead of the traditional violet, symbolizing a temporary easing of Lenten austerity. Little Easter – It is a kind of anticipation of the joy of the Resurrection. Liturgical readings – The Gospel of this day speaks of light, healing, or the multiplication of bread, emphasizing hope and God’s grace.
  2. This week includes the First Friday and First Saturday of the month. On Friday, April 4, at 17:00, there will be Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and an opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Confession. On Saturday, the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will be held from 16:30 until the evening Mass, allowing for silent adoration of the Lord.

The Second Sunday of Lent
🔗 Sunday notes

Liturgical Calendar
  • March 19 (Wednesday) – Solemnity of Saint Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary

  1. Our readings will now match the translation used in The United Kingdom. Please find today’s readings on-line at: https://www.catholicireland.net/readings/?feature=sunday
  2. This Lenten period we will be having a Special Collection for our Charity Fund. Donations may be made in the back of the Church after mass.
  3. According to the precepts of the Church, every Catholic is obliged to receive the sacraments of Penance and the Eucharist at least once a year during the Easter season, that is, in Lent and the Easter period.
  4. Penance includes fasting, prayer, and almsgiving. The Catholic Church distinguishes two main types of fasting: Strict fast. This combines both qualitative and quantitative fasting, meaning abstinence from meat (qualitative fast) and limiting meals to three per day—one full meal and two smaller ones, with no snacks in between (quantitative fast). The strict fast is obligatory on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday for those aged 18 to 60, unless there are valid medical reasons. Abstinence from meat (Friday fast). This applies every Friday of the year unless a liturgical solemnity falls on that day. It requires abstinence from meat but does not limit the number of meals. This obligation applies to all the faithful from the age of 14 and older.
  5. During Lent, “Alleluia” is not sung. The “Gloria” hymn is omitted at all Masses, except on solemnities and feasts. During this time, the altar is not decorated with flowers, and organ or instrumental music is only permitted to support the singing.
  6. On Fridays during Lent, the Stations of the Cross prayer will be held in the upper church after Mass which is at 19.00 in the friary chapel. There will be no English Mass on Wednesdays during Lent.

1st Sunday of Advent
Liturgical Calendar:
  • December 3: Memorial of St. Francis Xavier, Priest.
  • December 4: Memorial of St. John Damascene, Priest and Doctor of the Church.
  • December 6: Memorial of St. Nicholas of Myra, Bishop.
  • December 7: Memorial of St. Ambrose, Bishop and Doctor of the Church.
  • December 8 → 9: Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Solemnity (moved to Monday).

  1. Today is the first Sunday of Advent and the beginning of the new liturgical year. Advent has a dual nature — it is a time of preparation for the celebration of the birth of Christ, in which we celebrate the first coming of the Son of God to earth, and at the same time, a time of liturgical expression of our longing for the second coming at the end of time. Therefore, Advent is a time of sacred and joyful anticipation. The character of Advent is emphasized by modest decoration in the church and the prominent use of the symbol of light — the candle. Advent is divided into two parts: the first part, until December 16, has a pronounced eschatological focus, and the second, from December 17, is oriented toward the direct preparation for the birth of Christ.
  2. Also, today marks the beginning of the new month of the Living Rosary. Please follow the information on the bulletin board.
  3. On December 5, Thursday, at 19:00, there will be a meeting for those preparing for Confirmation.
  4. This week also includes the first Friday and first Saturday of the month. On Friday, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be held from 17:00 with the opportunity for confession.
  5. On Saturday, there will be a catechesis for adults. The first meeting will be from 13:00 to 15:00, followed by a break and tea organized by the participants.
  6. The latest issue of the Bible Guide will be available in the sacristy on Sunday after Mass.
  7. On December 8, Sunday, there will be a Mass in Polish at 18:00. Starting from the new year, this practice will be discontinued due to the lack of pastoral necessity.
  8. A collection for the organization of St. Nicholas' visit will be held after Sunday Mass.
