Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord

  1. Liturgical Calendar

    • Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday and leads us through the final days of Jesus’ earthly life to the joy of Easter Sunday. It is a time of deep prayer, reflection, and participation in the central mysteries of our faith.
    • 🌿 Palm Sunday — Commemorates Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Palms (or willows) are blessed, and we listen to the Passion Gospel, reminding us that the One welcomed as King will soon be crucified.
    • 🍞 Holy Thursday (Maundy Thursday) — Celebrates: The Institution of the Holy Eucharist; The Institution of the Priesthood; Jesus washing the disciples’ feet as a sign of humble service. The evening Mass recalls the Last Supper, and many churches continue with Adoration.
    • ✝ Good Friday — A solemn day remembering the Passion and Death of Jesus. Reading of the Passion; Veneration of the Cross; Holy Communion (no Mass is celebrated on this day). It is a day of fasting, silence, and deep gratitude.
    • 🔥 Holy Saturday — A day of silence and waiting at the tomb. In the evening, the Easter Vigil is celebrated: Blessing of the Fire; Lighting of the Paschal Candle; Proclamation of salvation history; Renewal of Baptismal promises.
    • 🌅 Easter Sunday — The joyful celebration of Christ’s Resurrection — victory over sin and death. It is the foundation of our Christian faith.
    • 🌿 Why Holy Week Matters — Holy Week invites us: To walk with Christ in His suffering; To reflect on His sacrifice; To renew our faith and hope; To prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter. It is not only a remembrance of past events, but a living participation in the mystery of salvation.
